In the UK there are three tiers of licence, each with an exam that can be sat in person, or online. They incur a small fee payable to the RSGB and the licence is issued by OFCOM. Training manuals for each exam, along with extensive online support from the RSGB as well as from local clubs across the country, are available to all.
The three levels of UK Amateur Radio Licence are:
- Foundation Licence – Maximum of 10 watts on most allocated bands. Band allocations limited.
- Intermediate Licence – Maximum of 50 watts.
- Full Licence – Maximum UK licence power of up to 400 watts.
Note: The Full License can be used with all UK amateur radio band allocations available. Certain other special licences (e.g. for special events, etc.), extra band or mode allocations, or for operation abroad, can only be applied for and obtained by those holding a Full License.
